John Bowis is a third generation automobile dealer in Bethesda, Maryland. His dealership, Chevy Chase Cars, was originally founded by his grandfather in 1939. John first became interested in autonomous vehicles 15 years ago when the defense department launched the DARPA Grand Challenge to build autonomous vehicles. Since then, he has come to the conclusion that this technology is so transformational that the world is entering a new era just as disruptive (and beneficial) as the first Industrial Revolution.
As a member of The Maryland Automobile Dealer Association, The Maryland Connected and Autonomous Vehicles Working Group, and Chairman of The Washington Area New Automobile Dealers Association, John has worked diligently to influence public policy on the auto industry and the future of transportation and mobility. He has served on numerous boards in his community and has received several awards, including Bethesda Magazine Best Car Dealer and the 2019 TIME Dealer of the Year nominee.
