After serving as full time faculty for twenty years at The George Washington University Medical Center, Matthew L. Mintz, MD, left academics in July, 2017 to start a private Internal Medicine and Primary Care practice in Bethesda, MD. During his tenure at GW, Dr. Mintz directed numerous courses and in the fall of 2013, he was directed by the Dean to take charge of GW’s 4 year curricular revision.
Dr. Mintz has won numerous teaching awards including the GW School of Medicine’s Distinguished Teacher Award and the American College of Physicians- DC Chapter’s Sol Katz Teaching Award. Dr. Mintz is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians and has been consistently named one of Washingtonian Magazine’s Top Docs since 2012. Dr. Mintz’ areas of research and publications include asthma, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and medical education.
Dr. Mintz has a concierge practice in Bethesda, and he is one of the few physicians in Maryland and DC that is registered to certify patients for medical marijuana. Dr. Mintz is a local expert on medical cannabis and CBD, and is author of the book “Medical Marijuana and CBD: A Physician’s Guide for Patients.” Dr. Mintz received a BA from the University of Chicago and a medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine, where he also completed a residency in internal medicine and was chief medical resident.
